STEM4: The Power of Collaboration for Change  July 2018

This document is authored by Advance CTE, Association of State Supervisors of Mathematics, Council of State Science Supervisors, and International Technology and Engineering Educators Association.

The document identifies that our nation currently falls short in preparing students for college majors or careers in STEM and offers three main principles to drive and implement outstanding STEM education research and practices:

Principle 1: STEM education should advance the learning of each individual STEM discipline.

Principle 2: STEM education should provide logical and authentic connections between and across the individual STEM disciplines.

Principle 3: STEM education should serve as a bridge to STEM careers.

Each principle is accompanied by a set of recommended actions that may be taken to shift toward access to and equity in STEM preparedness that is felt to be crucial.

The paper is the product of an organized and coordinated effort among the leadership of our respective organizations to address the challenges faced when implementing STEM education and providing access to the knowledge, skills, and career pathways necessary for all students, particularly those in underserved populations.

 LinkEngineering  Current

This website is an online community of educators interested in providing meaningful engineering experiences to PreK-12 students of all abilities. This includes – but is not limited to – teachers, teacher educators, and administrators. The site allows members to connect with each other and engineering education experts.

LinkEngineering is a resource website that provides examples of engineering in educational settings. It also provides background information on engineering and engineering design.

This site is the product of collaboration between the National Academy of Engineering and five partner organizations:

Achieve, Inc.

American Society for Engineering Education
Council of State Science Supervisors
International Technology and Engineering Educators Association
The National Science Teachers Association

Funded by Chevron, LinkEngineering is designed to support more effective engineering experiences in classroom and out-of-/after-school settings. It is not merely a collection of stuff. It is a community of practitioners learning from one another.
